Gintė Preisaitė - Instruments Of Forgetting And The Singing Bone - FELT

ergus Jones’ (aka Perko) FELT label has become an exciting new go-to place for fans of experimental music in the realm of electronic sounds. Besides releases by established artists like Carrier, Civilistjävel!, DJ Trystero, or Dave Huisman’s latest alias In Transit, Jones uses his label as a platform for young, talented artists. This holds true for FELT’s newest release by Lithuanian-born, Copenhagen-based multi-instrumentalist Gintė Preisaitė.

Following a live recording alongside Toshimaru Nakamura in 2025, the debut of the Treen trio (of which she is a part), and a few tape releases under her "Baraboro" moniker, Instruments of Forgetting and the Singing Bone marks Preisaitė’s debut solo release under her own name. Her abilities in ensemble composing, as well as her background as a graduate of Copenhagen’s Rhythmic Music Conservatory, are mirrored in all eight tracks on this LP.
Vigilance pulls back the curtain with subtle drones that slowly dissolve, joined by summery field recordings before loops of Preisaitė’s soft, pure voice are fragmented into layers of chops. Summary Saint Mary follows with her ethereal vocals over crisp atmospheric details, sustained by piano loops, deep, roomy kick highlights, and a jazzy outro. Deepen moves on with a slow, pop-leaning jam built on raw guitar- and drumwork, before Aéroport – the most beat-driven piece on the LP – carries on with a proper trip-hop head-nodder. Before you can even think of a linear structure on this album, I Constantly breaks down the instrumental vibe with a wonderful, jazz-leaning ambient piece. Nippon Dreams, a trippy, percussion-heavy experimental jam filled with nature and city field recordings, is true to its name. Beautifully longing, melancholic piano and vocal work on Day create tension, before Loop the Pause rounds off this impressive debut LP with several vocal and guitar loops that build up into a tuning-reminiscent, multi-instrumental jam in the outro.
