Sub Basics - Maneuver 01 + 02 MANEUVER

This marks the first double feature on this blog, but it would have been a shame to miss out on this double release by Sub Basics. UK-based Tom Wood, aka Sub Basics and head of the Temple of Sound label, has been strongly influenced by sound system culture since his very first release in 2014. Since then, he has released several singles and an album full of his forward-thinking mix of historically minded Dub, Dubstep, and Techno hybrids. On some of his latest releases, you could already spot a slight tendency toward a new direction – dub-infused, irresistible Tech House groovers. And this new Temple Of Sound sublabel seems to focus exactly on that new field he has acquired.

All tracks are incredibly well-crafted tools! Some feature warm basslines and fine, delayed dub chops (Maneuver 01-A1 & Maneuver 01-B2), others are mesmerizing, driving cuts that could play forever (Maneuver 01-A2 & Maneuver 01-B1), and some deliver big-room Dub Techno aesthetics in finest Basic Channel fashion (Maneuver 02-A1 and Maneuver 02-B2). With the huge comeback that Dub Techno has had over the last few years, this series is a truly inspiring one – not only trying to copy hits from the past, but exploring new ideas based on Dub Techno’s roots and expressing them in a minimalistic, dancefloor-accessible way. Very excited for all the following releases on this new imprint!
